Privacy notes

How VoiceBabel handles audio, keys, and permissions.

VoiceBabel is still in development, but the current privacy model is simple: local features stay local, cloud features are explicit, and the app avoids tracking.

Local mode

When local transcription is used, audio is processed on your Mac. In this mode, audio does not leave your device.

Cloud mode

When cloud transcription or cloud translation is used, audio or text is sent to the OpenAI API for processing. Cloud features require network access and an OpenAI API key.

Recording storage

VoiceBabel does not intentionally keep recordings after processing. Audio samples are held while a request is processed. Temporary encoding files may be created by the system and removed during processing.

Analytics and telemetry

The current app does not include analytics, telemetry, crash reporting, or user behavior tracking.

OpenAI API key

If you configure cloud features, your OpenAI API key is stored in macOS Keychain.

Permissions

  • Microphone access is required to record speech.
  • Accessibility permission is used to insert text into the active app and support auto-send.
  • VoiceBabel may temporarily use the clipboard to paste recognized text, then restore the previous clipboard text when possible.

Accuracy

Transcription and translation can contain errors. Review important output before sending or relying on it.

Affiliation

VoiceBabel is not affiliated with OpenAI or Apple. Product and technology names are used only to describe integrations and platform features.
